Why a Pick Up Line Works - and Doesn't Work - Do you Know the Difference?

I get emails all the time about technique. Guys want to know this or that, how to get her to do this or that....
And I'm always happy to help.
But I can't help but continue to notice how many men still suffer under the delusion of a dating guru solving all their problems with a book of pick up lines and cock and funny routines.
Everytime I think we're over this - I see millionaire "gurus" running around in their Porsche spending the hard-earned cash of guys who depend on them for answers - and the answers never come.
It really pisses me off, actually.
Seriously - "insider secrects"? Have you seen that catch phrase? How about sticking the word "Alpha" on any old sack of crap program and re-selling it to your fanbase?
Here's why these guys make so much money - they are the snake oil salesmen of today. There stuff doesn't work - and you buy it, try it, and figure you must've done something wrong. And they come out with the NEW program - and since the last one didn't work, you have to buy the new one...and on and on.
When will men get it through their heads that it takes a TRANSFORMATION of who you are to make everything else work?
My catch phrase isn't that I have "insider secrets" - or "interviews with dating gurus" - or any of that. I simply say this: Without the Attitude - NOTHING works.
Period.
In baseball - you think you're going to strike out, you probably will.
And with women - the same.
Once you have the real Alpha mindset - you can't fail. It's impossible. Why? because women are instinctively attracted to this kind of man. THEY CAN'T HELP IT.
You take any douchebag guy - arm him with the Double Your Dating routine - and you send out a Natural (the Alpha guy) with nothing more than a conversation about tootpaste, the Alpha will get the girls EVERY TIME.
It's about you. It's about the attitude. It's about the mindset. Always and forever remember that.
Pick up lines, cock and funny, and mysterious "methods" are band-aids and tire patches that may get you through a woman's initial defenses - but won't have you in control of each and every woman in your life for the rest of your days.
And hey - I know. I tried all that crap years ago.
My mindset was, "I'll just say this or that thing and she'll come crawling back!" and she never did. And I felt like a douche saying it - because it wasn't who I was.
One of my favorite students - a guy who is really bright and starting to "get it" - wrote to me just this week with a question about this same sort of thing. It's about a pick up line - more specifically a control move - that a dating coach taught him.
And I was there when this line was shared. I was just observing - and I felt the urge to explain this line and all the nuances that had to go along with it. But, it wasn't MY seminar - it was this other guy's. So I let it slide. But then, I had the following email exchange with one of my guys. And I got his permission to share it with you.

Quick question about a technique. A dating "guru" I follow mentions the technique of calling a woman late
at night and saying to her: "I just needed to hear your voice." He says the woman will get angry, but after you hang up,
she will call back and say she can't sleep and invite you over. Does that work? Have you used this technique? Congrats on doing well with your new audio.

Technique and "tricks" are a strange and wonderful thing. You should know by now that there is no magic line that will get a woman to hop into bed with you (Except for, maybe, "Hi - I'm George Clooney"). As with any technique, it can depend on the situation, the girl, etc.
But all of that means nothing compared to how much it depends on YOU.
I recall one case where I was pretty hot for this onechick. We had slept together several times.
One night, at about midnight, I texted her: "Get over here, now".
She wrote back: what? What's up? I'm in bed.
I wrote back: I need you here. You have 15 minutes and then I'm locking the door.
her: I'm in bed silly!
Me: 14 minutes
Her: on way
Now - would this have worked with some girl whose number I just got that night? Think about it.
Here's how the rest of this story goes:
She got there and I opened the door. She said, "What is it that's so important?"
I just said, "Come on..." and led her upstairs to the guest room - with an open window. And a blanket out on the roof.
I undressed her and didn't say a word. The rest happened outside. Really crazy and fun.
And the things that made this work were this:
- I don't normally text her. So when i do, she pays attention.
- I was very direct and gave her her marching orders.
- When I put the "clock is ticking" thing in there - It made it seem like I was serious, and she'd better hurry. And that It didn't matter to me if she came over or not. I was gonna lock up.
- I stuck to my story.
- When she got there, I led - and undressed her. I didn't ask, didn't speak. Just did it.
- And I had something "special" for her - the whole out on the roof thing. So if there was a next time - she'd know it was worth it. That is - I told her I needed her to come over now - and when she got there I had a plan. There was no, "I just wanted to talk" or any indication that I didn't know what I wanted. You can't be some needy bitch lonely boy.
The other things that are important -
- Women like to told.
- Women like to be needed.
- Women like to be taken.
- Women like to be dirty and do things spontaneously.
 But this is probably the most key. Remember - I said it depends on YOU. My overall attitude toward her was always that I was in control - before this night. So when it came
time for this move - it worked. It was set up LONG time ago, you see?
And that's the problem when a "guru" tells you he has a great line or move that works. You can't be the same guy that has failed with her or with women and then be instantly transformed by a manual. Never will work.
So the "guru" line - yes, that can work - but he has taken it out of context.

Reading your description, I realized just how important context really is. When Gary takes it out of context, it does, as you pointed out, sound like a magic line that works
miracles.
