Some Old Time Rock and Roll
JD Dallas figures out what's next
The Favors may or may not be anymore, having definitely played their last gig with their current lineup at Skully's at the end of June. Will one of the best power-chording guitarist in town, JD Dallas, carry on with his glam rock?"
'Well first of all, we always considered ourselves cock rock,' said Dallas with perhaps as much pride as a man can have while still keeping his jeans on. 'I mean, it was Shannon me and Steve as what we thought would be an irresistible force of nature, with the right guys backing us up.'
But now bassist Steve Patrick is leaving, thanks to marriage, owning his own business and a bad case of tinnitus.
'Shannon and I are thinking of carrying on, maybe as HoneyGun, were not sure' said Dallas. Singer Shannon Malone, surely this town's finest example of half-man/half-lizard front man, is still in it for the long haul.
'At least at out last gig we went out on top,' said Dallas. 'Skully's smelled like a bait shop.'
Like Picasso, Norman Mailer and Miles Davis, he may have a touch of the sexist pig in him, but trust me, JD Dallas is a mother on the power chord."

Headliners the FAVORS finally showed me what the hubbub is all about: extremely scrotal rock'n'roll. They're not ashamed that they're rabid dogs in heat - in fact, they're quite proud of it. Their amazing saving grace is that they've got some pretty good New York Dolls-ish anthems about sex and drugs. And they played like they'd been waiting all week long to play, that nothing in the world mattered more than this gig. But lemme really break it down to their secret weapon: J.D. Dallas, the bald-headed guitarist who really knocked me out with his power chording and nify little single-note support lines. We've gotta coupla good power-pop guitarists in town, but ol' J.D. is in a class by himself. A true rocker.

Misogynist or realist?
Columbus musician launches dating advice website that takes men back to their evolutionary roots
By Steph Greegor
Ohio State grad and Columbus’s own “Hitch,”—the Will Smith character in the movie of the same name—J.D. Dallas makes no apologies for the testosterone-filled dating advice and soft-porn photos he offers on his website, modernmalelifestyle.com.
If the name sounds familiar, it should. Dallas has been on the Columbus music scene for much of the last decade, in bands including Dogrocket and the Favors. He now plays with HoneyGun.
“I don’t expect (women) to be as intrigued by the depictions of female sexuality as a man would,” he said. “The images are there. That’s the hook to get the guys in there. You know, there are some great articles in Playboy, but that’s not why you pick it up. You pick it up because Jenna Jameson’s hoo-hah is hangin’ out.”
While Dallas admits to his share of negative feedback from dating tips, that include such things as how to “stay out of the platonic zone and get into the lower zone,” from his eBook, The Dating Attitude (also available—for $24.95—online), he said that any woman who believes it’s akin to misogyny isn’t really being honest about the way of the world.
“A hundred years of history is not going to change hundreds of thousands of years of evolution,” said Dallas, who graduated with a bachelor’s in journalism. “Regardless of what has happened with empowerment of women, the basic instincts since we climbed out of the ocean and said ‘I am man’ haven’t changed. Men are visual creatures. A guy will stay with a woman and put up with the most outrageous shit and he’ll stay because she’s gorgeous and looks like Barbie doll.”
ModernMaleLifestyle.com was launched in July after Dallas decided to take advantage of his self-professed prowess. Though he couldn’t pinpoint the number of women test subjects in his evolutionary development, he said it was enough for him to learn to “do it all night and do it properly".
